Since this started off with a mad dash to see Moneen, it’s obviously going to be an exciting time. Shows on the island partially suck cus of getting to the dock and waiting through a never ending line up for a 15 minute boat ride – but once you get through that it’s ok. I got there to see a packed ferry about to leave, with a line up that would fill two more rides making me wait about 45 minutes. I guess I flashed the media pass (thank you Katie) to the right people, got waived ahead and just as the final gait closed but they opened it a foot so I could slip in (thank you Toronto Island crew).
When it docked on the island I could hear Moneen playing. I ran off so fast through fields of grass and crowds and made it to the main stage without missing too much of Moneen ! They were so much fun, and without asking the whole crowd to join them on stage, made us forget the size of the place and made everything happy! They played passing of the Americas and tons of good stuff from the Red Tree
The rest of the day was a sunny tiring blob a Bikini Contest, some ok bands, The End, Fucked Up and the a huge bash with Gold Finger. GF always put on a wicked show and actually seem to care more about people having a fun time then pleasing the event organizers. Half way though the traditional pulling everyone on stage for Mable, an organized walked through and told them it’s over.
(see photos 11 to 16). That was pretty crummy considering at least a few other bands were also stopped mid set and terminated for naughty language. But otherwise this was a great day.
