entry, by David
I showed up during sound check to find Eric Warner at the door with a cast on each arm from two fractured elbows. I can’t believe he made it out, I’m sure it wasn’t an easy time.
I had a busy night biking around the city to different events between sets but managed to see three of the four sets with good feelings about every performance.
I haven’t seen Etaoin Shrdlu since last February and could hear the new confidence and strength in their sound. I wish more local musicians were playing with the math-rock / grunge direction these days.
I biked over to the Edward day gallery around Queen and Dovercourt, then to the Freedom Clothing Collective store on Bloor st to meet some friends for a moment and back to Sneaky Dee’s in time not miss a moment of DDMMYYYY
The months of touring has made them tighter then ever as they played a short but probably most confident set I’ve seen sofar. I would have been happier if more people danced but everyone seemed to be into it otherwise and the mood of mostly friends in the crowd was peaceful and welcoming.
My first thought on Parts & Labor was ‘early Greenday meets Lightning Bolt. Feel free to argue on this but I’ll stand by this and mention that it’s with positive intentions and that the set was something fresh and fun. I think the Greenday thing is more about the echo vocals. Great drumming too.
