    entry, by David

Wavelength is such an important part of this city and the anniversary series shows have always been a highlight of the year.

(I'll start with the complaining, then move onto how much better things got)

For a pay what you can wavelength show, the girl doing the door was pretty pushy about getting $10 per person, firmly saying to me 'this isn't a free show, I gotta make my money!' Which may be true, but to say it like that is obviously going to make people feel less into the spirit of wavelengths history, paying more when you can afford but still being able to enjoy the music on weeks when money might be tighter. Maybe she has a really good reason and I'm missing the context but this kind of put me in a bit of a down mood..

This wasn't Rozasia's best ever show and it's always hard being the first band on. So far the set at extermination night II is my best memory of them but really, maybe this was good I was just feeling down, in a semi filled drafty/cold club at 10 pm. They had energy and gave effort so I'm starting to think it was just the context of space and type of crowd and you should ignore this part of the entry.

Lee (gf) and I left for some food and returned in a much better mood. We caught the last few songs of Etaoin Shrdlu, Alex's (Icpmaboyc) new (?) band. Of note, I've always been more then impressed with Alex's Skills in the print shop, being responsible for the wavelength zine and posters for these Celebration shows, as well as countless other beautiful print jobs in the Indie scene.

Spiral Beach are a band I first heard of randomly about a year ago when my media-art's teacher from high school asked if I knew them because her friends son played in the band, and she knew I shot a lot of Toronto bands. It's music I wouldn't normally get into much but for a live set it was pretty fun, and their's no denying the bands talent and stage presents. As expected, with such a diverse line up tonight (having four completely different bands with a less then overlapping fan base) most people were just waiting for Fucked Up by this point. I could see SB opening for something like Shout out out out and really getting people into it.

Fucked Up predictably played an spectacular set that got the slightly less then usual crowd to "mosh". I have to stop thinking of the past, every time a band out does themselves or gets the best crowd reaction my expectations get unreachable and now I'm thinking about the CD release show on Oct 27th 2006 at the Elmo. Great performance none the less, Fucked Up are a band I've never been let down by and will always get excited for.
