    entry, by David

The thing about Monotonix is that you have to know you're going for three crazy, grimy Isralie's smacking their instruments looking for trouble - creating one huge party just for their set, any time, any place.

I have to give them total credit, they put on a set with more energy and attempts at crowd integration then any other band I've seen. A lot of bands would like to think they put everything into getting the crowd dancing at 4pm, Monotonix are sofar - the only band I've seen really do it, every time. I don't know how they Keep It Up.

I think it's fair to call their Antics obnoxious, but it's shamelessly worth it. It's not a pretty-boy singer trying to flirt with a girl in the crowd by pulling her on stage or hugging her mid song, it's a hairy sweaty man picking up a girl and twirling her around just for the fun of making a mess while the gritty garage rock plays on.

The set ended with a ten minute song in which they moved all the gear (without stopping) - first over to the stairs, and then piece by piece on to Bloor street stopping the westbound lane of traffic for about four minutes while they finished the song. This was obviously without a permit and in the pure spontaneous nature of the band.
